Technology in the Restoration of the Work of Art 15.10.2009.

 On October 19, at 18.00 in the Georgian National Museum Auditorium Dr. Annaliza Zarrantini, head of Italian Archaeological Division hold a lecture: “Technology in the Restoration of the Work of Art”.The lecture will organize under the patronage of the President of the Italian Republic and with the contribution of the Georgian National museum and the Embassy Italy in Georgia.


Ilia and Kiril Zdanevich exhibition 15.10.2009.

October 8 - November 10, 2009.

The exhibition present pieces from Francois Merre's (general president of 'Club Iliazdi') collection and from Georgian National Museum's depository of the Zdanevich brothers 50 works. These pieces of artwork have never been displayed in Georgia before.

 The joint exhibition of the collections of  Georgian National Museum,Georgian National Archive and National Centre of Manuscripts.

Over a century has passed since  the birthdate of a distinguished scholar and statesman Shalva Amiranashvili. Famous scientist put an inestimable merit towards Georgian art criticism. Sphere of his interest covered considerable points through Byzantine, West European, Russian and Near – Eastern history of art.    

 

 

 


Renovated Dmanisi 25.09.2009.

 From September 26, 2009, Georgian National Museum invites you to renovated Dmanisi  archaeological field museum.

Dmanisi is the first archaeological field museum located at the excavation site in Georgia. With its architecture Dmanisi preserves world famous archeological layers, provides favorable conditions for scientific studies and caters to broad public interests. The author of the project is the famous French architect Jean François Milou, Architect & Manager of Studio Milou Architecture and Studio Milou Singapore.

Dmanisi is the significant cultural heritage site that has been under the scientific research since the beginning of the XX century.

18 years ago, on  September 24, 1991 the hominid remains were uncovered in Dmanisi that made drastic twist in the world´s scientific society. Since this period the new phase started for the Dmanisi scientific research. Nowadays, this site is well known for the international public for its 1, 8 mlillion years old diverse hominid and animal remains.

 


Earliest fibers, dating back 34 000 years18.09.2009.

 The Presentation of the Scientific research of Dzudzuana Cave was held at the Auditorium of the Georgian National Museum on September 16, 2009.

On September 11, 2009, the weekly journal SCIENCE published that, the flax fibers, found during the excavation of the cave are the earliest (34 000 years ago)  known to have been used by humans, who probably turned them into linen and thread.


New Archeological Discoveries in Mtskheta22.07.2009.

 Georgian – Australian Project

On July 21, 2009 the representatives of Georgian National Museum and the University of Melbourne presented the outcome of the joint project called "Excavations in Samtavro" 2009.  

Various Bronze, Silver and Golden objects dating from III-IV (A.C.) were discovered in "Samtavro Graves".   


Exhibition at the J. Paul Getty Museum15.07.2009.

 Opening of the exhibition named "The Golden Graves of Ancient Vani" has been held on July 16th at the J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Villa, California, Los Angeles. The exhibition was inaugurated by J. Wood, President of J. Paul Getty trust, Batu Kutelia, the  Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States of   America, Canada and Mexico and David Lordkipanidze, the Director General of the Georgian National Museum. The Georgian treasury is on its Euro-American tour for two years and L.A. is the last stop in US. 140 objects from the most celebrated archaeological sites of Georgia.

The sensational number of the visitors (more then 700 people) crowd at the Getty Villa to take their tour through  the history of Ancient Georgia.
